Molly Ivins Pots ‘n’ Pans Brigade
~
Every Tuesday (starting February 6) between 11:00 and 11:30am, Bruce R. Thompson Federal Building, at Liberty and S. Virginia
We will be on the public sidewalk, where our Congressional representatives maintain offices, to raise a little hell with implements of cooking to end the war in Iraq.
Background:
In October 2006, Molly Ivins decided to devote all of her subsequent columns to the subject of Iraq. Last week (January 31), she lost her seven-year battle against breast cancer. On January 7, 2007 , she wrote her last column. These were her last words to us:
"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge... We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, "Stop it, now!""
The great Ship of State is not easily moved. But if we all release our inner tugboat, together we can make it turn around.

P.S. If you've never before participated in a demonstration, you may have some questions about personal safety and the risk of arrest.
At these gatherings, we will adhere to the Non-violence Guidelines developed by the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Atlanta. These guidelines state, among other things, that "we are not risking arrest" because we will not be breaking the law. The Reno Municipal Code regarding "Disturbances of the peace" (Sections 8.12.020, .021, .023, .042, and .110) allows for the peaceful assembly of two or more persons on the public sidewalk, as long as there is no interference with the free ingress and egress of persons who have business in the bordering property or with persons using the public sidewalk. A reasonable amount of noise is allowed. However, if approached by a peace officer (as a result of a complaint) and asked to desist and/or disperse, you should be aware that failure to comply could result in your being charged with a misdemeanor.
"The right of the people to peacefully assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution ("The Bill of Rights") and is respected by local law enforcement. We return that respect by informing the Reno Police Department and the GSA (the security officers at the Federal Building) of our plans, so they won't be caught off guard (you should excuse the pun!). All in all, it's a very civilized exercise in democracy.

No Name Eaters group, Saturdays ~
The late Jim Keith (author of "Black Helicopters Over America: Strikeforce
for the New World Order," "Mind Control, World Control," and many others) assembled a circle of writers, researchers, media watchers, political
activists and paranoids to assist in his research. That circle continues to
gather for a weekly "show and tell" every Saturday night. Our discussions are far ranging and
usually interesting -- at least if you find politics (from local corruption to global conspiracies); veterans affairs, breaking
news, Tesla technology or alternative health of interest! We meet in the banquet room at the back of the Sparks Denny's (on the corner
of East McCarran Blvd. & Nugget Avenue, just off I-80). Things usually get started
by 6:00 PM and end by 10 (although you don't have to stay the whole time (people tend to come and go throughout the evening)). Please join us any
time you are in the Reno/Sparks area.
